All instrument setups are personally completed by Jimmy D, a retired touring guitarist and studio musician, ensuring every instrument is evaluated and optimized from a player’s perspective.

Jim Dougherty is the founder and driving force behind Jimmy D’s Vintage Instruments, a specialized acquisition, restoration, and resale business serving the vintage and collectible stringed instrument market. Based in Vermont, Jim leads a disciplined, multi-state acquisition strategy focused on underrecognized, estate-rich regions often overlooked by traditional dealers and national retailers.

With more than three decades of experience in the music industry, Jim is a retired professional guitarist, studio musician, and entertainer whose career and long-standing relationships date back to Rutland in the late 1970s. These connections provide direct access to private estates, collectors, and industry professionals, enabling Jimmy D’s to source high-quality instruments that are rarely available through conventional retail or auction channels.

Jim oversees acquisitions, purchasing, client services, setups, repairs, and instrument testing, ensuring every piece meets high standards of authenticity, playability, and long-term value.
